Why build with SIP's?
What is a SIP?
SIP stands for Structured Insulated Panels. These panels are a pre-engineered building system. The installed panels consist of an inner core of extruded polystyrene sandwiched between two outer layers of oriented strand board (OSB).
There are 4 raw materials in SIP panels:
- Oriented Strand Board (OSB)
- Extruded Polystyrene Insulation
- Graded Timber
- Adhesive
The OSB, Insulation and timber are prepared, assembled and pressed, to give a finished composite panel. The panel then passes on to the Hundegger Machining Centre, where the panel is machined to exacting tolerances, and the window and door openings are cut out. Once the panels are finished the cutting process they are checked for quality and stored or placed on trucks and transported to site. The panels not only provide the insulation but they are also used as the load bearing walls for the roof. When assembled, the structure is self-supporting.
This building system is versatile enough to be effectively used in the construction of housing, commercial and industrial buildings, extensions, roof panels, conversions, offices and schools.
